Curvecrypto: your first token swap on Curve
Curve is a non-custodial decentralized exchange for stablecoins and volatile assets. For a first swap, review the Swap Router's quote and the minimum output set by your slippage tolerance.
- Network scope
- Ethereum and supported EVM-compatible chains, with pools listed separately for each network.
- Entry points
- Curve Swap Router, a specific pool's swap interface, or an aggregator that integrates Curve liquidity.
- Costs through Curve's interface
- The displayed exchange rate includes the pool trading fee. Network gas is separate, and Curve charges no frontend fee.
Choose a route for your token pair
Select the network and the tokens you intend to exchange, then enter the input amount before reviewing a quote. The Curve Swap Router searches Curve pools on that network for a route and quoted output.
A pool's own swap interface doesn't search other pools, but a simple direct swap can use less gas. Aggregators including CoWSwap, 1inch, and Odos also integrate Curve liquidity.
Token approval before swap submission
Through Curve's interface, a requested token approval authorizes a Curve smart contract to interact with the specified token. Connect your wallet on the selected network before authorizing transactions. When approval is required, complete it before submitting the separate swap transaction.
Understand the minimum output
The final output can differ from the quoted amount while a swap is pending. Slippage tolerance limits how much less output you'll accept compared with that quote.
For the same quote, raising tolerance lowers the minimum output that the swap can accept. Review that minimum before accepting a setting that allows a larger price movement.
Decide whether to submit
- Continue only if the selected network and both tokens match your intended swap.
- If Curve requests approval, check the token that the permission covers before confirming it.
- Submit only if the minimum output is acceptable and you've accounted for separate network gas.
- To inspect a quote without authorizing a trade, stop before approval or swap submission.
Confirm the swap's outcome
Check the swap transaction's onchain result to establish whether the exchange executed. A quote or approval confirmation doesn't establish completion, and a pending swap is still awaiting execution.
If a swap reverts because its minimum output can't be met, the original tokens aren't exchanged. The network can still charge gas for the failed onchain attempt.
Curvecrypto questions worth asking
Can the router handle ETH and WETH automatically?
For routes involving ETH and WETH, Curve's Swap Router supports automatic wrapping and unwrapping. Review the quote's input and output tokens to see which form the operation uses.
